MM Works 'Archives'
MM Works 'Archives'
It’s with great pleasure that we welcome MM Works to the AQRR-roster. In the group’s debut on the label, we’re given a first glance in to the vast catalogue of the reclusive duo. The guitar-drum dyad represents a mysterious and challenging, but ever so intense and rousing sound. From subtle fragility to intensified pulsing, the group roams in a delicate balance of structure and freeplay, avant-garde and modern composition. The music often follow two inseparable paths: a repetitive element, and a seemingly loose improvisation on top. The focus point is left open, but it doesn't take long before realizing a constant cohesion throughout the elements of both structure, interplay and sonic palette. The repetitive is seldom symmetric, and the asymmetry seems well guarded by a free flowing synergy.
Archives is compiled of recordings made at The Royal Danish Academy of Music from 2016 through 2020. Taken out of it’s various original contexts, these 9 tracks represents a quieter side of the group. Though it’s liberatingly difficult to classify the genre of the group, moving on the verge of progressive jazz, avantgarde and even post-rock, there’s always a cinematic openness and airy quality to the recordings. Shiftingly unafraid of silence and letting loose, no matter what, you’re in for weird and dreamy experience.
